CBA, CAFA, CCS programs awarded Level 3 re-accreditation
Enacted by Board Resolution No. 64, s. 2000, the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) was established on November 21, 2000. The College offers liberal arts courses, making it a point of intersection for the other course offerings of the University. Being the most diverse academic unit in the University, it provides service to the other eight colleges by taking care of the provision of the General Education (GE) courses, the basic social sciences, and other foundation courses for professional training.
Notwithstanding, the College has its own curricular offerings, which are: Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Bachelor of Arts in Communication, and Bachelor of Arts in English Language Studies. A new course offering, the Bachelor of Human Services was added to the roster of undergraduate courses with Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) No. 006, s. 2023 which was certified on May 23, 2023. The Bachelor of Science in Criminology, established in 2011 by virtue of the Board Resolution No. 37, s. 2011 dated May 19, 2011, and first offered during the academic year 2012-2013, was once part of the college before the establishment of its own college.
Aside from its undergraduate programs, the College offers graduate programs. The Master of Arts in English Language (MAEL), was established by virtue of Board Resolution No. 101, s. 2014, with Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) No. 118, s. 2020 certified on November 24, 2020. The most recent addition is the Master of Arts in Counseling (Academic Track), established by virtue of Board Resolution No. 013-2025, with Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) No. 005, s. 2025 which was certified on March 10, 2025.
With a variety of courses to match every passion and faculty who motivate personal and intellectual growth, the College provides a truly unique educational experience—one that encourages curiosity, creativity, and transformative learning. The college nurtures critical thinking and problem solving, hones students’ abilities in writing, speaking, creative expression, research and scholarship, inspires civic involvement and community participation, and equips graduates for a wide range of careers in an ever-changing global world. Indeed, the College prepares its students in dealing with the complexities of human life analytically and creatively, addressing its emphasis on holistic education.
Besides instruction, research, creative scholarship, community outreach and extension programs, as well as public service activities, the College serves as an avenue for the discovery, dissemination, and proper utilization of knowledge to make positive impact in the society. Since its inception, the roles and responsibilities of CASS have expanded in scope, keeping pace with the growth in enrollment and the increasing size of the units and colleges it serves.
