Tarlac State University's College of Business and Accountancy sealed a first-time partnership with the DepEd Tarlac City Schools Division yesterday (April 24) to foster economic and financial literacy in the country.
The memorandum of agreement aims to raise the awareness of teachers, employees, and students on financial literacy, covering income and expenses management, savings and expenses management, investment, cash management, and insurance in terms of education, life, and health, all enveloped in the economic and financial literacy series of seminars of CBA.
The partnership, a long-term extension project, is anchored on Republic Act No. 10922, declaring the second week of November as Economic and Financial Literacy Week in the Philippines.
"This memorandum signing signals the realization of our TCSD people's dream of a strong and stable nation that is progressive and prosperous because, under this program, SDO Tarlac City (TCSD) is more committed to bringing public services in the non-teaching staff in the hope of realizing financial program, cascading it to the level of our learners relative to enhancing competencies in the field of business. Let us aim for a debt-free TCSD and competent ABM senior high school (students)," Dr. Ruth Jimenez, TCSD School Governance and Operations Division Chief, said.
Dr. Elizabeth Amurao said the CBA faculty members are pledging their 100% support in achieving the endeavor.
According to Prof. Christine Janelle Santiago, CBA Extension Department Head, the partnership aims to capacitate educators in the various aspects of personal finances, including budgeting, saving, and making financial decisions to understand and achieve financial freedom and stability and promote responsible financial behavior.
TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco also joined the MOA signing to bolster the administration's support for extension services.
"This partnership is a significant turning point for TSU as we are dedicated to extending our expertise to our beneficiaries. By working together, we can practice the spirit of cooperation and collective action that lies at the heart of the Department of Education. I hope our time together is full of insightful conversations, connections, and inspiration to keep working together for a more promising and successful collaboration," TSU President Dr. Arnold Velasco said in his speech.
The economic and financial literacy seminar series will start on May 10 this year, with the TCSD non-teaching staff as the first batch of participants.
TSU CBA is also planning to launch another extension program on financial literacy for the DepEd Tarlac Province Division. (jlmm-OPA)
